Q: What is PLR?
A: Peace, Love, and Rockets is a LAN Party located in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex right in the heart of Texas. We host 5 LAN Events a year and take over our own section of the BYOC every year at QuakeCon. We welcome everyone to our LAN's and play games from all genres including FPS, RTS, and MMO.
Q: Who organizes PLR?
A: A small volunteer staff is responsible for organizing and running the PLR events, see our contact page for a list of them.
Q: How much does it cost to attend PLR?
A: There is a base cost of $10 to attend BYOC and additional charges for system rentals.
Q: When is PLR?
A: We have 5 LAN Events a year in January, March, May, July, and October. Be sure to check the main page for announcements about the dates of these events.
Q: How do I attend?
A: Just watch the main page for our announcements, register once it opens, and be sure to show up ready to LAN!
Q: If I am under 18 can I still go?
A: Yes, the PLR staff works hard to make sure the event stays appropriate for guests of all ages.
Q: When can we check in?
A: check-in usually starts 2 hours prior to the start of the event but be sure to check the announcement for specific times and possible changes.
Q: What is the BYOC?
A: BYOC stands for Bring Your Own Computer/Console. It is a Local Area Network of 80 computers and servers on our network. There will be several official and unofficial tournaments held in the BYOC, which you can participate in using your own computer.
Q: What games are played in the BYOC?
A: Any game you want. Chances are good that if you want to play a game there is someone else who also wants to play that game. Please note that any multiplayer game you want to play must support TCP/IP. (Most do) MMO's are not blocked. We dont encourage non-stop mmoing, but it is available during down time.
Q: How many monitors can I bring into the BYOC?
A: One (1) monitor per person is allowed in the BYOC. This counts for CRT's, LCD's, and TV's.
Q: Can I bring speakers with me to the BYOC?
A: No. Speakers will not be permitted in the BYOC. Headphones only please.
Q: I have no idea what you are talking about, can you guys help me out?
A: Yes, we will have network staff available in the BYOC to give you any assistance with setting up your machine that you may need. Just bring your computer, an Ethernet network card, and any driver disks that come with it and the installation CD for your operating system. Also, you may want to ask the people that are sitting around you to give you a hand. Don't worry about looking like a newbie, we're all glad to help out.
Q: What is the policy on drugs and alcohol?
A: Zero tolerance. Due to our inclusion of everyone young and otherwise, we cannot allow alcohol or drugs at the event and anyone who comes under the influence of them or is found with them at the event WILL be asked to leave, a repeat offense will result in your being banned from future events as well.
Q: Will there be Internet access in the BYOC?
A: Yes, there will be Internet access in the BYOC. Large downloads, however, are discouraged unless necessary. We ask that you keep the line free for your fellow gamers. We will provide a file server which will have everything you need for the official tournaments
Q: How many computers/consoles can I bring? Does my psp count?
A: PLR allows for one PC/console per paid registration per workstation. Mobile devices such as UMPC's, Eee PC's, PSPs, DSs, etc. do not count towards this limit. Mobile devices will be defined as having a screen size of 7 inches or less. Users are permitted one server to be setup on server row which is limited to remote accessibility only. Only staff will have access to servers in order to maintain a satisfactory level of security.
